Baldwin was and is what America needs most - a fierce, unwavering honesty about the shadow of America and a fully embracing love. His honesty was honed by being a black gay man living in 20th century Harlem; his love was the divinest of gifts. We can bear witness to Baldwin's vision in a letter he wrote to his 14 year old nephew, telling him that white people's beliefs about blacks testifies to their "inhumanity and fear," but nonetheless, he must love them: "These innocent people have no other hope," these people "are your lost younger brothers."
In this "era of Trump," it is more essential than ever that we build community, dialogue, and learn together. I have arranged for CCA to give us a private showing of the new documentary about James Baldwin, "I Am Not Your Negro." Before the movie I will give a short talk about Baldwin's message for today. After the movie I will facilitate a conversation. Please join me in this moment of activism.
We strongly recommend purchasing advance tickets using this link as we now anticipate the event may sell out. Please remember to bring your printed out tickets with you.
